Biomedical applications of vibrational spectroscopy: Oral cancer diagnostics

نویسندگان

چکیده

Vibrational spectroscopy, based on either infrared absorption or Raman scattering, has attracted increasing attention for biomedical applications. Proof of concept explorations diagnosis oral potentially malignant disorders and cancer are reviewed, recent advances critically appraised. Specific examples applications microspectroscopy analysis histological, cytological saliva samples presented illustrative purposes, the future prospects, ultimately routine, chairside in vivo screening discussed.

Biological and biomedical applications of two-dimensional vibrational spectroscopy: proteomics, imaging, and structural analysis.

In the last 10 years, several forms of two-dimensional infrared (2DIR) spectroscopy have been developed, such as IR pump-probe spectroscopy and photon-echo techniques. In this Account, we describe a doubly vibrationally enhanced four-wave mixing method, in which a third-order nonlinear signal is generated from the interaction of two independently tunable IR beams and an electron-polarizing visi...

The evolution of biomedical vibrational spectroscopy: A personal perspective

When my colleague Parvez Haris asked me to write a historical review on the evolution of biomedical vibrational spectroscopy I consented, but now I need to clarify what this review is about and what it is not. It is my personal belief that biomedical vibrational spectroscopy has yet to reach its full potential and therefore I will not restrict myself to recounting its past history but will look...

Salivary Diagnostics in Oral Cancer

Saliva is considered a mirror of body health and is composed of variety of analytes from systemic sources that reach the oral cavity through various pathways. Because water is a major constituent, saliva plays a key role in the lubrication and repair of oral mucosa, formation and swallowing of food bolus, digestion of starch, facilitation of food tasting and control of oropharyngeal microbial p...
